The practice of Chi Gong involves moving meditation, orchestrated slow motion coupled with deep rhythmic breathing. In this work artist Dara Mark represents that vitality in the flow of paint that is held and then released by the 'stop action' of space between the 'frames'. It is genius.
Each painting is different; the breath is depicted as controlling the paint. short breath is exhibited as thin frames of flowing paint; deep breath is thick, full frames of flow.
Dara Mark studied at Yale and the University of California at Santa Barbara. She has received artist grants from the Arts Councils of Missouri and California and the Santa Barabara County Arts Commission and has shown in museums including The Albuquerque Museum, Los Angeles Municipal Gallery and the Palm Springs Art Museum.
